some great break through films worth tracking down, made by first time directors

16 worth seeing Scandanavian movies

A 1995 movie "Nick of Time" with Johnny Depp the most remarkable scene is a production and viewer standpoint is the 35 story ride (technically only 33 floors) in the glass walled elevator, to get the right lighting and not capture the reflections of the crew was a feat according to  IMDB.com. One of the things I notice about the film is that it's about a 90 minute film, and the entire plot is supposed to occur in 90 minutes which is unusual for any movie to be done that way and for some reason it feels like it's longer, like hours, yet you don't feel like you are sitting in a movie that long. The plot progresses from each element to the next as if you are right there experiencing the whole thing and somehow there becomes a feeling of gaining more time oddly enough. The Westin Bonaventure Hotel where it was filmed is the largest hotel in Los Angeles and a very unique place to stay, dine, visit just to see the roundness of it's walls and cozy cubicles that feel like they are suspending you above everything, and it's a nice place to relax. official site

SPECIAL EFFECTS - I found this effect to be stunning. Take a look at it. It's impossible to do just with reflection but that is the impression it gives so it really bends the mind.

The World Cup sports games in Brazil are amazing to watch and hear. The passion I heard in their excitement of wins was so intense it made my eyes water. Here is a clip from who says this is how his neighborhood sounds in Moema, São Paulo opening game Brasil x Croatiawhen Brazil scores in the World Cup.

May 3, 2014 - There was this movie on TV yesterday. It was one of those movies you find yourself sitting there wondering when the movie is going to actually start, and that's after 30 minutes. It was hard to watch but since I have limited choices with no cable or satellite or even a streaming movie box, and there was absolutely nothing else worth watching I forced myself, knowing that sometimes these kinds of movies surprise me. It was very slow to develop into anything, and kind of boring almost the whole way through, and seemed to take so long to have any real plot, but it ended up being an amazing film. One of the reasons it seemed too slow was it seemed a bit too much like every day mundane life at times, but that ended up being one of it's structural pieces that helped build into it's climax. It was based in the suburbs of a seaside community, and oddly, did not bash life in the suburbs which is a popular theme these days. The emotion it stirred up at certain points in the film was unique, very unique and had some very intense scenes that were so void of dialogue but rich in acting. Instead of resting on so much talk, it used more of what makes film making great...the acting and well structured scenes. This movie is a must watch in my book. It apparently did not appeal to the masses too much which is expected as most people don't have the patience, expecting quick dialogue and quick transitions from scene to scene, but I think it's a must see. Itt's called "3 Backyards" made in 2010. It's one of those movies I suggest not reading anything else about and just watching it for full effect. Here is the IMDB page if interested in looking at how it was rated.

Seth McFarland appears to be making a western. According to a post on reddit we read this:

cmehigh 79 points ago

I found this synopsis: After a cowardly sheep farmer (MacFarlane) backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend leaves him for another man. When a mysterious and beautiful woman (Theron) rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love. When her husband, a notorious outlaw, arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test.

and there's an image claimed to be from the set here. The movie's said to be called "A Million Ways to Die in the West".

Camera stabilization technology used in a spoon? But why! It's used for making eating easier for those who have shaky nerves.

An open letter to makers of "Wolf of Wall Street" written by Christina McDowell, formerly Christina Prousalis, the daughter of Tom Prousalis, a man the Washington Post described as "just some guy on trial for penny-stock fraud."

This is claimed to be
"an insanely steady camera image stabilizer". Looks great, but when I look at it I notice that it's not being demonstrated in the up and down motion. It shows left/right and back and forth but real filming challenges have more motions than that, all happening at once. A better demonstration would show all movements that someone would be actually doing while filming while running, walking, and following an actor or the action, and then providing the film to prove it's ability. I also wonder if this unit has a dampner. I don't know who makes this item. Thread found here. You can also see this same demonstration on cats so maybe you can hook up a camera to a cat instead and have the same effect. Or if you are on a farm, use a chicken. Or an owl. Here's the kind of demonstration I'd like to see with a camera on a chicken. And here's one that clearly demonstrated that a chicken would work much better.

OPINION: Why on earth did they make Nebraska a black & white movie? It's like Blair Witch all over again.  Blair Witch destroyed TV and movies. People hated the camera shake, said it made them sick but it was used as a base for the entire plot. For some reason it caught on, became the norm, and now it's in half of every moving image, from commercials, to shows, to movies. Camera shake works only at certain times with certain rare scenes. Today about 90% of camera shake, and quick zoom, is annoying, nauseating, and takes away from the product. I can't stand the show "The Office" as it's inundated with this stupid technique. I think that someday when I become famous I will sit in an interview and shake to mimic this, so the camera doesn't have to just to see the look on their faces.
